52 Abuja Schools Get a Head Start on Climate Change, Green Energy

They came up with solutions to some of the world's biggest environmental problemsand won prizes for doing so.

Clean Technology Hub, a green energy firm in Nigeria, held its first-ever Nigerian Students Climate Summit in Abuja last week, with 52 secondary schools from across the country participating, the Guardian reports.

Twenty-one schools entered the Clean Tech Innovation Challenge, which asked students to come up with solutions to climate change, green energy, and clean technology adaptation.

Four winners emerged: Government Secondary School, Kubwa, for "Future Smart City Web," Government Science Technical College, Garki, for "Production of biogas and organic fertiliser from bio-waste materials," Nigerian International Girls College, Wuse 2, for "Green City," and Springhall British School, Maitama, for "Energy efficiency IOT home device."

"The students came prepared and showcased their products and ideas," Clean Technology Hub said in a statement.

"The event was a testament to the creativity and determination of Nigerian youth."

The Guardian notes that students used drama, dance, poetry, and pitches to educate attendees on the need for environmental preservation and climate justice, while Clean Technology Hub says the summit "catalysed a new generation of environmental stewards poised to shape a more sustainable future for Nigeria Read the Entire Article
