Want to sail the world's oceans? Then you'll want to check out PredictWind's new "Climate Data" feature, which analyzes 10 years of weather data from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.
"This historical dataset is unique.
We have used phenomenal amounts of computing power to collate and average the data for the entire world in 30 km resolution," Jon Bilger, PredictWind's founding director, says in a press release.
The tool allows users to see how wind, wave, and other weather patterns change throughout the year, allowing them to choose the best months for calmer or more consistent conditions, or to avoid extreme weather conditions, the Independent reports.
For example, if you're planning a trip to Tahiti and want to know the best time to go for optimal wind conditions, Climate Data will show when the prevailing wind is best.
"For example, insights revealing that the best winds for kite foiling occur just outside the traditional tourist season, allowing users to enjoy fewer crowds while still getting prime weather" will "make it simpler to plan ahead for smoother sailing or to avoid potential extreme weather conditions," Bilger says.
