Sec Ends Defense of Climate Disclosure Rules, Citing Cost and Intrusiveness
The decision marks a significant shift in the agency's approach to climate-related financial disclosures.
The SEC adopted final rules in a historic 3-2 vote on March 6, 2024.
The move culminated two years of public debate and drew more than 24,000 comments.
The rules would have required disclosure of Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) greenhouse gas emissions.
