When it comes to dealing with climate change, the UK is doing its best to keep the global average temperature from rising 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) over pre-industrial levelsbut it's not enough, according to a new study.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says the country needs to keep the temperature from rising 3 degrees Celsius (4.8 degrees Fahrenheit) over pre-industrial levels by 2030 to have a chance of keeping the global average temperature from rising 3.6 degrees Celsius (8.5 degrees Fahrenheit) over pre-industrial levels, the BBC reports.

The study, published in the journal Nature Climate Change, says the UK needs to keep the temperature from rising 4.5 degrees Celsius (7.6 degrees Fahrenheit) over pre-industrial levels by 2030 if it wants to have a chance of keeping the temperature from rising 3.6 degrees Celsius (8.5 degrees Fahrenheit) over pre-industrial levels.

"The message from the scientists is that we need to keep the temperature from rising more than 3.6 degrees Celsius if we want to have a chance of keeping the global average temperature from rising 3.6 degrees Celsius," study co-author Arash Salardini tells the Guardian.
